One unified platform for clinical workflows, inventory, and billing.
HELIX is a comprehensive hospital management system unifying clinical workflows, pharmacy inventory, billing, and administrative operations across two of Accra's most prominent medical institutions. It provides a single operational layer for clinical and non-clinical staff, eliminating the silos that previously drove medication errors and administrative bottlenecks.
Both institutions operated on disconnected ward-management tools with no integration between clinical records, pharmacy inventory, and billing. A clinician discharging a patient triggered three separate manual handoffs. Pharmacy stockouts were frequent, unpredictable, and sometimes dangerous. Billing disputes took weeks to resolve.
We designed HELIX as an event-driven microservices platform where every clinical action — admission, prescription, procedure, discharge — publishes an event consumed by all downstream systems simultaneously. The pharmacy module runs a predictive inventory model that forecasts consumption by ward and triggers automated reorder at configurable threshold levels.
Bed turnaround time reduced by 32%. Pharmacy stockouts decreased by 78% through predictive inventory. Billing reconciliation automated at 94% — disputes now surface as exceptions rather than the default. Daily active users across both institutions: 800+.
"Before HELIX, discharging a patient was a 45-minute administrative ordeal involving three departments and two paper forms. Today it takes under 8 minutes and happens on a single screen. Our nurses now spend that time with patients."
"The pharmacy module alone has been transformative. We have not had a critical stockout since go-live. The system orders before we even notice we are running low."
